They will likely come out soon, just put them back in and before long they will be able to get in and out themselves. You will hear or see them exercising their wings before they actually fly.

They normally exit the nest box anywhere from five to six weeks after hatching. Some earlier. They will come out and immediately go back in too. When the parents are ready to start another clutch, THEY will make sure the babies are out of the nest box. At that time, they should be ready to fly and to be separated from their parents. It all comes very naturally. The father bird will teach them to eat from the seed dish. Once the hen starts laying another clutch, it is time to make sure the first babies are not allowed back into the nest box.

Lila (temporary name) just came out of the box a couple days ago, age ~4 weeks. Her little sister still hasn't ventured forth that I know of. Today I noticed Lila was out and picked her up, and she rewarded me with a fly around the room! Her very first flight!!

Just checked my journal and their big brother (from first clutch) let himself out of the box at age 32 days, and flew for the first time four days later.

What cute little yellow sweeties! They must be more feathery now, are they all lutinos?

They will come out of the nest box from as early as 3 weeks of age if the nest box is easy to get out of. I purposefully make my nest boxes deeper so that they have to be more physically developed to be able to co-ordinate and climb out. Even so the odd one pops out randomly every so often and i simply put them back in and they may not come out for another 2 more weeks.

On average they fledge at about 40 days (5-6 weeks old). From as young as 2 weeks of age, you can place seed and millet in the nest box to encourage pecking at seed. This will greatly increase their ability to recognise and handle seed before they fledge and will greatly decrease any weaning problems.

If any come out before the age of about 40 days, i would gently pop them back in. They should stay for the most part.

Default kamikaze budgies?

Heyer, i dont have any baby budgies or eggs yet, but i need to know something.

My nest box is up the top of the aviary, about 1.5 meters from the bottom, and i cant help but think that when/if i get babies they will fall to the bottom and injure themselves, the bottom is like the bottom of a small cage, with the tray and the wire plate above it so its not going to be a hard fall but surely enough to do damage, i do realise that all baby birds throw themselves out of the nest at one point, im just worried they will hurt themselves.
