Default Is it safe to have a new born around our pet budgie?

We recently bought a budgie as a family pet and as a gift to our two daughter's for being big sister's to our third child that is due any time now. Should we be concerned about any health issues for our new born in terms of allergies, illnesses that can be caused by owning a budgie.

What should we do to minimize any risks of illness with our newborn?

We have a spot for our budgie in our family room where we spend most of our time. We also wanted to put a small crib next to the cage but at the same time we were concerned if there were any health issues that may arise for our baby. At the same time we didn't want to put our budgie in a separate room.

Your advice is much appreciated

I would be concerned about putting a crib right next to the cage for the reason if the budgie flaps around his cage he may swoosh particles up into the air and the baby may inhale some of the dust. Other than that I see no problems with it..good luck with the bird and your new baby!!

I would think near the cage is ok but right next to it I would not do because of the bird dust particals. They can cause bad allergic reactions and bird dust is just not good to inhale. Think about an air filter near the cage also.

Best place to get advice is from midwife! he or she will have most of the answers.

I think as long as the cage isn't too close to the crib so dust, seeds and poop can't get to the crib it'll be fine. justr make sure you keep on top of keeping and cleaning up after the budgie.

Have fun and good luck with both of your new bundles!
