Has anyone used the Feliway diffuser (plug-in) around their birds? We have two cats and are going to be fostering a cat in a couple weeks. To make the transition a little smoother, I wanted to try Feliway, but I want to make sure that it won't harm my budgies. I'm getting conflicting reports about it.
I was reading online that some asked their vet about using it, and the person was told that because it's ethanol-based, it shouldn't be used around them, but I just called my vet who said it was fine.
"Feliway spray is a feline facial pheromone analogue. That means that it is a man-made version of the substance your cat deposits when she rubs her cheek on your leg or furniture. This substance is a signal that cats use to mark objects in their "territory". The smell tells the cat she is in a safe place. Feliway can be used to make a new place or situation "feel" more familiar and safe for cats."
Hmm still never heard of it LOL the only things i've ever used (way before i ever had birds) was the spray to get dogs/cats to stop peeing on my furniture or to stop scratching at it
But if it has any scent what so ever it's a huge no
because you can't use perfumes, colgones, scented candles, house hold cleaners and all that stuff around birds,
I'd say when in doubt Don't use it. there are tons of other ways to make a animal feel comfortable in a new place. that doesn't consist of chemicals.
Some are fine with a bed of their own, a certain toy that is just theirs, a towel/ shirt with the scent from thier normal home/ handler to sleep on. things like that.
i use to sell it when working at the vets, it makes say a cat or dog calmer and more comforatable, some people use it on car journeys if there pet is scared in vechices
hmm i'm not sure about it around birds, i wouln't reconment it
and you put it in a different room maybe??

It's supposed to be odorless, but I'm still not 100% on whether I should use it. I'm leaning towards not using it unless someone has used it before around their birds.

If its odorless how does the cat smell it?
