Here is my 'must read' list for prospective budgie breeders:
-All of TB's breeding articles and stickies
-ABS (or similar organization) website
-The Budgerigar By Dr. Rob Marshall

I also think prospective breeders should talk to or atleast have an email/phone conversation with a breeder or organization to hear about their breeding experiences if possible. (:

I don't think it would hurt to skim through those old breeding guides, as they may have some old remedies and such. They will most likely have some incorrect information since they are older books, but it still wouldn't hurt to have a look through them in my opinion. (:
