Default Flooring

I have noticed that in photos I see of cages online, the floors are usually covered by newspapers. And while reading through some threads I also read about which newspapers to use etc.

I was wondering about this, because over here (Germany) we have bird sand for the floor. I know that some people put newspaper under it so it's easier to clean, but they still put sand on it. I only have sand, because we don't really read newspapers and the sand is doing it's job of absorbing the poopies wetness. The sand is also with grit and other minerals which birds consume. Though I have to admit, my birds are rarely ever on the ground of the cage. I do have a bowl of sand hanging on the side which they check out and nibble on sometimes though. They usually just empty the bowl because it's fun to throw it around I guess.

Back to the initial question.

Newspaper or Bird sand?
