Six months is a good length of time to wait until you get a friend for Moonie. That give him plenty of time to get used to interacting with you. Also, please remember when you get a new budgie, you will need to quarantine the new bird for 4-6 weeks.
Quarantine means housing your new bird in a different cage in a different room as far away as possible from the room your current bird(s) is in for a period of 4-6 weeks.
Budgies mask symptoms when they are ill. Symptoms may not show up for over two weeks. Often you will not even realize your bird is not well. Many budgie illnesses are airborne which is why you need to quarantine your new bird in a completely different room.
English/Show budgies get along with American/Pet budgies just fine.
In general, English budgies are more laid-back than American budgies so even though there is a size difference the larger bird is not likely to "bully" the smaller one.
I have a very large 50/50 English/American that is actually larger than my full English budgies. The 50/50 spends his days with my very small American/Pet budgie will no problems.
