how big is big?

I had mine in a cage like this

I put the whole thing in my car and hauled it to the bird sitter.
It would go either way, vacation place or sitter.

Now I have a huge flight cage, I would have to put the birds in a smaller cage to transport them.

However, I think that for a short time, they can make due with less palatial accommodations. I could put them back into the finch cage, or even the Vision (M1) I still own.
Boarding is about as tricky as finding a good pet sitter (there might be services in your area)

But I think either is disruptive so it would not matter, really. It really depends on how far your destination is.

I would not leave them alone for 5 days without anybody to check on water and food.
My late Trouble would make a sport of it to scratch the seeds out of the trays...and since the cage has a crate in the bottom....
