I'm glad you were able to get the male safely away from the female.

Cover the top and three sides of his temporary cage and play some relaxing music to help him calm down.
Sitting next to his cage and talking to him calmly and reassuringly will help as well.

This cage would be a good choice for him and is reasonably priced.
