Default Foraging in the bottom of the cage

I am using oven dried beech wood shavings for the bottom of my cages for my budgies, and was wondering if anyone here has any experience in spreading seeds or so in the bottom of the cage for them to forage and rummage through. I don't have a massive layer of the shavings, just enough to cover the bottom of the cage, and I've noticed that one of my budgies especially often enjoys walking around the bottom and looking for edible items among them

Do you reckon that the seeds would still be 'findable' among the shavings, or does anyone have any experience with creating foraging opportunities for the budgies?
