Yes this sounds like hormonal mating behaviour and yes, it would be wise to separate them for a while, so that he can take a week or so to ‘cool off’ and she can have some peace.
Whilst it’s great that he is so delighted in the arrival of his friend, we really need to encourage a more platonic relationship - If she was enjoying his constant attention then you could soon find yourself having more than the two birds to worry about
Take your male bird into a different cage and if possible a different room, and give him a week or two to calm down.
Follow the advice in this sticky from now and continue to apply it when you gradually introduce them back together.
Hopefully, he’ll calm down and it will all work out. If it doesn’t, then you may need to house them separately permanently. If that turns out to be the case, then they can still enjoy the company of being in the same room and possibly have supervised out of cage time together.
