Hi! to Talk Budgies

The purpose of this forum is to promote the best practices in budgie care for their optimum health and well-being.

First of all, you need to remove the nest box from the cage immediately.

If your female is only 6 months old, she should NOT be bred.

A budgie should not be bred until it reaches a minimum of 12 to 18 months old which you should already know.

You should also know that budgies don't need a nest box unless you are planning to breed them so why did you put a nest box on the cage?

You may have bred budgies in the past, but you obviously did not do so in accordance with what this forum considers to be best practices.

Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility. This requires extensive research and an openness to continual learning.

Guidance regarding Breeding Advice Threads

Are all three budgies in the same cage?

I recommend you remove the male and cage him separately from the two females.
This needs to be done today.

Rearrange everything in the females' cage and move it into a different room.
Limit the daylight hours to no more than 8 per day. Limit protein in the diet.
If the female does lay any eggs, dispose of them immediately.
Eggs are not viable until they have been incubated for several days so throwing them out is no different than disposing of eggs from a grocery store.

If you do not take the steps advised, you are putting the 6 month old female and any potential offspring at severe risk.
