When I got my birds about a year ago, my girl had scaly face mites. When the vet told me, I was horrified and was dreading the huge cleaning process but my avian vet told me that the mites cannot survive off the bird, so just a good clean of the cage would be fine and that a huge disinfect isnít needed. I know everyone has different opinions on this, and everyoneís vet probably has a different view as well, but I just cleaned my cage with hot water and white vinegar and Iíve never had a problem since. Of course, keeping the cage clean with your regular paper chambers etc. helps too.
