Once a budgie learns the dimensions of a room having uncovered windows does not pose a problem.

I previously had my budgies in a large room with patio doors which were uncovered during the birds out-of-cage time.

Now that I'm in FL, the birds have their own rooms and their windows are uncovered during the birds out-of-cage time every day.
None of my birds has flown into any walls or windows in our new home.

Once a budgie can maneuver (which is much easier for them when they are fully flighted) they can easily turn, dive and are quite surprising to watch when they fly.
