Individual Breeding Cages - why is this SO important?
The purpose of the Talk Budgies Forum is to promote the best practices for the health and well-being of budgies. Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility. This requires extensive research and an openness to continual learning. Colony Breeding is never recommended due to the inherent risks and dangers. Budgies in the wild have many miles of territory where they can build their nests. When breeding birds in a cage or aviary, choices are limited and the dangers increase proportionately. Dangers Of Colony Breeding Limited Nesting Sites: Ethical and responsible breeders choose to breed their birds in the manner which is safest for both the parents and the potential chicks This means using an Individual Breeding Cage for each pair of budgies being bred. Keep in mind, budgies should be a minimum of 12 – 18 months old before being bred. Budgies 4 years old or older should not be bred. Individual Breeding Cages One Pair per Breeding Cage |
