Katie's Art Thread (Ongoing Thread)
Well, of the forums I've joined (horse, dog, etc.) this is by far the most active and supportive. And since I'm always working on some new art, I thought I might as well share it on here. Instead of posting 500 different threads I'll just make an ongoing one ;) I'll include commissions I've done, personal art (mostly watercolor & colored pencil right now)maybe a few sketches...And if you don't already know, I am a huge animal lover, so probably 99% of my art will be of animals :giggle:
Here are some new pieces that haven't been shared on my previous posts:
I was going for kind of a fun, loose, little bit abstract look on this one. It was a lot of fun to do, since I could actually use my vibrant colors for once :p AND I got to use masking fluid! I love using masking fluid- there's something about purposefully splattering goop on paper and later rubbing it off...and seeing the fun designs it held! It's so satisfying :giggle:
This is my first commission, so it's pretty special! Cool story behind it, too! A lady wanted an art piece done of her friend's dog for a christmas gift. Her friend had lost her dog in an unfortunate circumstance so she (the lady who hired me) wanted something of the dog for her friend to have. The lady who originally hired me might have me do a commission for her personal animals, too, so that's exciting! Hoping some more people will hire me as we near the Holidays, since commissions are some good Christmas gifts:fingerx:
Previously I had posted a picture of one of my favorite pieces I've done. But the picture was awful, so I thought I'd repost the better picture here, WITH a closeup. The piece is a colored pencil of my horse, Tessa, touching noses with her brother. Picture still makes Tess look a little too red, but much better than the other one....the closeup is a more accurate representation ;)
And then I'm going to start working on some Christmas-themed art. I'm hoping to get a lot of progress made this weekend. But for now, here's the rough sketches of some ideas I had. When I say rough, I mean that these took me around 5 minutes each :giggle: So obviously some work needs to be done on each before being turned into an art piece...if I decide to use the sketch. They're numbered and I'll give a brief description/notes of each...if you have a favorite feel free to share! ;)
1) A puppy playing with Rudolph's nose! Going to make the red nose shining bright of course! ;) Going to put the paw prints in snow horizontally instead and the giant obnoxious snowflakes in sketch will be replaced with realistic, fluffy ones...if I decide to do snow. Still deciding on dog breed...thinking maybe Aussie, Collie, Golden Retriever...I want to have a fluffy/long-haired breed, but has to stand out against snow and I'd like it to have a different color than Rudolph.
2) Fawn coming out of dark woods. Going to have her emerging out of shadows...think I'm going to add some Christmas lights to the trees, too. The little animal-type-thing in the front I'm still playing with. Might have a dog or something? Might put it sideways instead of from behind, we'll see :D
3) Puppy's first snow. If I decide to do a piece it will be cartoonish and whimsical. Would be kind of a cute, humorous piece.
4) Wolf/dog head closeup with snow coming down. Will have some snow in fur and possibly on nose...
The ones I'm probably going to do an art piece of are numbers 1 & 2. We'll see on 3 & 4. Christmas is rapidly approaching so I really need to get cracking on these! Want to turn them into some cards and/or prints to sell. Family members already want some!:w00t:
And then some digital art I did (and by digital art I mean I took a picture and photoshopped and played with it :p)
Golden Retriever Puppy
Rose with Raindrops
Thanks for looking through this! Feel free to offer opinions or questions, or whatever :p Stay tuned for updates and more art. Like I said, going to try to get some done this weekend so will probably post again in the next couple days!
These are all great! I love your art style and I definitely look forward to seeing more :D
My favorites are the drawings of Tess and her brother, and the seahorse  Well done!
Such talent :D I love them all. I think my favorite though is Tessa and her brother :). Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful artwork!
These are all great, very well done, I love the colors in the seahorse.
They're amazing I love your art well done :) Would you ever consider drawing pieces for people on Talkbudgies or not?

All the pieces are lovely however I also especially like the seahorse for it creativity and vibrancy. What type of watercolor paint do you use? I am an artist too although I have worked in soft pastel and oil paint and only worked with watercolor in high school long, long ago.
Just wanted to ask what type of paper(s) you use. I think you said that this is color pencil. I am just starting to show an interest in color pencil myself and thus far have limited experience with Poly Cromos color pencils. I want to try the Derwent company pencils too. I have a small set of Derwent colorsoft and love them. If I get a new camera this year I will photograph my budgies and do a couple renderings of them.
As for the brands I use....
M graham & co
I don't remember the exact name of the brand I got. I ordered it in sheets years ago, but I believe I got it from the Merri Artist.
Colored Pencil Paper:
Bee Paper Super Deluxe. This is the place I ordered mine from, though with a different size.
Bee Paper Aquabee Super Deluxe Sketchbook - BLICK art materials
Christmas Art Progress!
Well, I got to work on that Christmassy art I was hoping to get some time to work on! :) I thought it might be nice to mix it up and show the work in progress, so you see the steps along the way instead of just the finished product. Put in a few hours today, hopefully will find a couple hours to finish it tomorrow. If not, will have to do some in the coming days...
This is the first piece I decided to do of the 4 sketches. I kept Rudolph but I decided to do a collie puppy instead of the westie I had originally. Still deciding on the color he's going to be....thinking sable and white, golden mahogany, or maybe even merle. We'll see! :D Rudolph is pretty much done, I have to do some highlights around his nose to it's actually shining, but I'll do that when I add the background. Oh, I forgot to say that this is watercolor with pen.
Finished Sketch and transferred to watercolor paper. You'll see on sketch 2 different dogs. I was experimenting with which breed I wanted to do. As you can see, I did the collie ;)
My quick experiment with how to do Rudolph's nose...
Finished Rudolph. There are many layers of color and pen work on this. I should've taken more pictures along the way, but once I got absorbed into my work I completely forgot. Will try to remember when I do the collie :)
After I'm finished with this piece I'm going to do a piece on the #2 sketch (on first post).
How cute Rudolph is! I love his sweet face :D.
The Rudolph picture is so sweet. I love the detail you've managed with the coat.
I've started working with water colour pencils (I say started, I've had them about a year I just don't use them very often) but I'm still working on getting the look right.
