Default Climbing The Ladder!

I have been working on training my 4 parakeets to climb a long wooden ladder that goes from the floor up to their cage. They like to play on top of the cage and sometimes flutter down to the floor. And rather than me having to go get them and help them back up… I would put them on the bottom rung of the ladder and they finally figured out they could climb it to get back up to the cage. And my back appreciates their new skill!

The funny thing was at first they would always go behind the ladder….climb between the rungs and struggle to get themselves turned around to climb up. Kind of backwards but after a while their little lightbulb came on and they figured out it was easier to walk around to the front of the ladder and then climb up.

Silly birds. But they are so entertaining!

Here are a couple pics showing 'Shadow' and also 'Sunshine' ladder climbing.

That's a great idea, and I might have to invest in a ladder for my birds as well!

You know it does look like it would be hard for them to climb up but they just zoom right up especially when their buddies are waiting for them on the top of the cage! They also stop and try to take a few bites out of the ladder too.

Jonah...I had a rehomed LoveBird several years ago and that ladder was one of the supplies that came along with. And he was already trained to climb the ladder.
I Googled wooden pet or bird ladders in the Images... and some stuff comes up on eBay, Etsy and some pet stores. You should be able to find one similar online.

Randy, I have the same ladder and got it on Amazon a few years ago. I think they still have it. It works great when your little ones are learning to fly.

Hey Randy, I found this one on My Safe Bird Store | Discounted Bird Products | BIRD FREE ENVIRONMENT| Free Shipping Available they always give extras when you buy from there. I just searched ladder, and it was towards the bottom. they have other lengths of course, but this was the longest.

That is one long ladder... wish I'd had one for my unflighted budgie. Would have come in very handy at times. I like your out of cage set up. .. nice.
