Default Budgie kisses turned into feisty bites?

Birb used to be very affectionate and would give me little budgie kisses near my cheek/nose/lips (no contact with my saliva)
In return, I would give him kisses on his back and belly. I admit, my kisses would be a little aggressive.. but now whenever I put him near my face, he lunges and attacks my nose or lips

He still gives budgie kisses to my fingers.. but are the face kisses gone?

Most likely the biting he is doing is in response to the "aggressive" kissing. Birb must have interpreted that as a challenge and now that's how he responds when you try to kiss him and put your face near him.
I'm not quite sure on what the "aggressive kissing" entails, but one must be careful when handling and closely interacting with a small pet bird, because they are delicate creatures.
It's also not advisable to kiss or pet the back/lower back area as that can trigger mating behaviour.
Not all budgies will be receptive to being kissed, especially when pass the baby stage.
Given your budgie's reaction, it's best to not place your face too near, nor attempt to kiss him.

I agree with aluz. It sounds like he's just asking you to respect his space at this point. He may not always be in the mood for face kisses, and is trying to ward off attention.

It's important to be in tune to your budgie's body language, so you learn to see when he's more irritable and won't take kindly to being so close to your face.

Also, his age may have something to do with it, if he's still relatively young.
