Default Standing on one leg.

Hi all - I have heard that budgies stand on one leg before falling asleep but Mycroft does it when I talk to him - I have attached a photo & just wanted to check I'm not freaking him out - I don't stand next to the cage when I talk to him but I want to start training with him in the next few days so thought I would seek advice on if he is afraid of me when he stands like this.

Its completely normal. You don't need to worry too much about it! All birds do it.
Budgies stand on one leg because they feel relaxed and comfortable, sleepy and/or they want to rest the leg they are raising. You can see them switch legs after a bit (if its standing using the left leg, its resting the right and vice versa).

If your budgie has trouble walking (like limping) or if he has a poor, puffed up and crouched look, then something may be wrong with him.
If he acts normal, chirps, eats fine, plays fine and the droppings are all fine, then you don't have anything to worry about.

Mycroft is such a beautiful boy! <3 Good luck with your taming!
Looking forward to the future updates!

Does he act like he's limping and do it all the time, or does he only do it when you talk to him?

No he isn't limping & in fine health. We have a female budgie who isn't ringed and she tucks her leg up so it's almost invisible but she only does it when sleeping.

I have only seen Mycroft tuck his ringed leg up so it doesn't go in as tight but he has only been home with us a week so hence the question.

Everything about him is perfectly normal so I will take it as a good sign that he is comfortable in his surroundings.

Yes, then it sounds like he is perfectly fine.

Budgies will also tuck their leg up when they are comfortable and at ease, so that's his way of showing that he likes it when you talk to him
