Default Not playing with toys?

Hi
I have two female budgies. Their cage has a lot of toys in it (bells, swings, chew toys), but neither of them ever touch the bells(they seem to be afraid of them). They went on the swing once or twice but hopped off immediately. They play with the chew toys sometimes, but not often. They mostly just eat, preen themselves, and sit on their perch. I try to give them out of cage time, but they don't like to come out. I'm a bit worried about them. Maybe I'm not providing them with the right kind of toys, I don't know. Please give me some suggestions on how to encourage them to play with their toys.

Thanks

Some budgies just aren't interested in toys, especially when they have a companion. Perhaps your girls are scared of the toys? I have found attatching small pieces of millet to toys can help get the budgies curious about them. Same goes for coming out of the cage, perhaps you could tempt them out? Sometimes coming out of the cage can be scary to budgies because that's their safe place. Try having a perch attached to the outside of the cage and putting some millet spray there. I have also turned my food bowls around so they sit on the outside to encourage birds to come out of their cage. Keep an eye on them if you do this though, you don't want your birdies to starve because they're too scared to come out.

Some budgies have to be taught to play with toys.

A toy with a bell is usually a good one to start with.
You can play with the toy yourself and make excited happy, fun noises as you do so. This will help encourage your budgies to become more curious about the toy.

Take a look through the link below for some suggestions on toys your budgies might enjoy.

I have bells, a ferris wheel(I put fruits in it), a swing with a mirror and other toys, and a mineral block and cuttlebone(which they don't even use)

I think they need a bit more variety

I have that cage, too, but only for a single bird smaller than a budgie. For two budgies, you need a larger cage!

That will give you more options to put perches, and lots of fun new toys for them to explore

Interacting with them and their toys (i.e talking to them while playing with one of their toys outside of the cage) will help, as mentioned.

Once you get them a cage that is large enough for them (at least 30 inches by 18 inches by 18 inches for two budgies) then they will be more keen to explore and fly around a bit rather than have to stay on either one of two perches

Best wishes!

I agree, definitely the Giantex cage! The triple roof one is smaller than that one, and the other white one has bar spacing too far apart for budgies
