Default 2 New Male Budgies Fighting?

I just got 2 budgies (bought them within a couple of days of each other) ones a bit older and the other ones still young maybe about 14 weeks. They both have seperate cages and they we in the same room talking it seemed fine so i put the cages next to each other, they were really excited and talked heaps but until 3 days ago they keep screaming and yelling at each other? Its very loud and I know it must be a territorial thing to find out who's boss, they both sit on their perches next to each other right at the end of the cage, but when they have their arguments the younger sits there and the older one runs back and forth his perch and slowly walks back up to him?

I'm not sure if i should eventually put them together? They both get along together a night and play at the bottom of the cages etc and the little arguments only last around 5 seconds?

(They're both male btw)

Hi Amber and to the forums!

Congratulations on your little boys! They sound adorable

As for the "screaming matches", that is perfectly normal and doesn't usually indicate an argument at all; the loud calling and cackling back and forth can often be to indicate an excitement to see the other bird.

It's most likely that they will get on just fine when you do put them together!

For now, I'd continue to leave their cages together; that's a great way to introduce them!

When you feel it's time they should meet face-to-face, it should be in a neutral territory (out of the cage or in a cage that is large enough for the two of them and has been rearranged if one of the budgies has already been living there to prevent territorial tendencies).

We'd love to meet your troublemakers when you get a chance!

Meanwhile, be sure to read through the forum's many articles and "stickies" (threads "stuck" to the top of each subforum for easy reference) to ensure you're up to date on the very best of budgie care.

Cheers!

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Star has given you excellent advice. When it comes to introducing the two budgies, it is important you do so in neutral territory.
Sometimes having two or three supervised meetings prior to moving them into one cage is advisable. Before introducing a budgie into another budgie's cage, the cage should be completely rearranged (perches, toys, food and water dishes) in order to help prevent any potential territorial issues.
