Default Budgie not playing?

So I've had my boy for one week now now. He's so sweet and cute, and I've been letting him settle in and get used to his surroundings before focusing too much on taming him yet. He seems to be a lot more comfortable in his cage now and will move between perches and sit in his swing.

My only question is, he doesn't play. And I'm wondering if this is just his personality or if I should be doing something different. He's an English budgie and when I was doing research I kept reading that they're very laid back. And the breeder told me he's a very mellow boy.

My Australian budgie acted like he drank mt dew all day. He would play like crazy and was really hyper. He would get going so hard on his swing he would almost be completely horizonal in it! This little guy just sits on it without moving. My old budgies went totally crazy over bells and toys and this guy hasn't even touched one.

Are English budgies less likely to play? Or is he just too laid back to be interested? Is it something that slowly comes to them with time? Or could something be wrong and am I doing something wrong? I only have 2 in his cage because I didn't want to overwhelm him.

I don't have any experience with english budgies, but budgies in general can sometimes take a while to realise what their toys are for. Since you have only had him for a week he's probably still settling into his surroundings. Unless he is showing signs of illness then I wouldn't be concerned.

Thanks! I hope that's all it is. Just not used to this!

It takes budgies time to settle into a new environment.
Generally it takes a minimum of two weeks (and often longer) for a budgie to begin feeling comfortable in its new home.

Your budgie may not "discover" his toys for several weeks.
If, in a couple more weeks he still isn't showing any interest in the toys, you can begin teaching him how much fun they are by playing with them yourself.
Exclaim excitedly over the toy as you play with it to pique his curiosity.
