Default Skye nibbling bars and water dish

Hey everyone! Been a long while since I last posted.

My budgie Skye's been enjoying her flight cage for two years now, and she just turned 7 years old! Though the past few days she's been acting weird. Healthy otherwise, but she's been climbing around the cage nibbling the bars. At first I looked and thought she was trying to get at some dust that settled on the cage, so I gave all of the bars a good wipe down. She's still at it though, and then she went to her stainless steel water dish and started nibbling the underside of it for some reason.

She has plenty of things to chew, lots of wood perches of different shapes and sizes, and two mineral blocks. I'm not sure why she's doing this? I also just put a carrot in her cage. I wonder if she's just being weird?

Her droppings also look normal and she's got a regular energy level, so I don't think she's sick. Just a little worried about her, I guess.

Also, her flight cage doesn't have paint on the bars so I don't have to worry about her chewing that off, I was just a little concerned about why she's doing it.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Aeron!

I'm glad Skye is doing well

I would say that most likely she might be attracted to the metal because perhaps she has a vitamin deficiency. What diet is she currently on?

If all is well and she's got plenty of opportunities for a varied and balanced diet, then perhaps she's just a bit odd

I agree with Star.
I have one female who occasionally decides to chew on the bars of her cage although none of my other eight budgies do so and they all have the same diet.

Thanks guys! I believe she should have enough of the right vitamins. I always try to get her to eat veggies though she's still been really picky, but since she is I add the Nekton-S bird vitamins to her water every other day, and on the other days she gets some apple cider vinegar in it instead.

Looks like she's also stopped chewing the bars today. Maybe she was just being kinda weird!

It sounds as though things are going well for you with her so I'll go ahead and close your thread.
If you need the thrad reopened at a later date, just send me a Private Message with the link to the thread and I'll take care of it for you.
