I'm not concerned by this behavior, instead it seems quite endearing.
Bird, my female of unknown age, really really likes hanging upside down. Is this a common wonderfully weird trait of these feathered darlings?
She has a large flight cage (32"x22"x40") and free flies most of the day. I've never seen her "bat" in the cage, but she'll frequently do it on her various perches/play-stations.
Do your budgies "bat"?
Sometimes she'll just hang out. Watching me upsidedown.
Other times she'll hang and casually nibble whatever is near by.
Today she hung around for about 20 minutes before flying back to the cage for a snack.
Many people's budgies like to do that, but my budgies don't. Especially my female, Mink. She's much too ladylike for that lol. My male is active but prefers upright. One of my parrots loves to hang upside down as much as he can. Interesting how some really like the position and others prefer to be upright.
Her name is Bird.
Sometimes noodleBird, chaosMachine, mircoDino...
She came into my life early 2016 when a family member passed and no one wanted her budgie. When the talk at the funeral reception went to "maybe we should just let it go" I stood up and offered to take responsibly.
My plan was to rehome her, hence just calling her Bird, but within 5 days I was in love.
Interesting! Thanks for your stories RavensGryf!
They have so much character per gram.
That's so cute! My budgies occasionally hang upside down too. But not for long periods of time like Bird How sweet that you took her under your wing. I went back and read the thread on how she came to be in your life. She seems so sweet and tame- she's very lucky to have you as such an amazing owner
