Exclamation He Hits Him in the Eye!!

Recently I have noticed that my male budgie, Enoch has been very mean to my other budgie, his love, Midorima. I usually notice his mean behavior when Midori is happy or trying to be affectionate with him. When I first got Midori, Enoch was head over heels in love and was always giving affection now he's been so grumpy. What he does is hits Midori in the eye with his beal when he gets close and it breaks my heart. In reaction, his eyes gets kinda swollen and he blinks it a lot or just keeps it kinda closed, no blood though. Midori is very happy and doesn't care because he loves Enoch so much. I'm on the verge of moving Enoch into another cage but I really don't want to. Any tips or have you expierenced anything like this, what happened?

Hi Noah

Sorry, but I really think that you need to separate them. Whilst it's common for one budgie to occasionally lunge towards another to tell them to back off, Enoch is purposefully aiming for Midori's eye.
The eye has already been injured (Swollen. Blinking. Holding it closed), you don't want to wait until Midori is blinded.

Yes, they're likely going to call out for each other and make you feel like a big meanie but I think it's the right thing to do. Maybe after a few days cooling off apart, you could closely supervise some joint out of cage time together.

I agree with JRS. This behaviour is likely to get worse and it's a kindness when one animal is in danger of injury.

It's very important that you separate the two budgies into individual cages.
Enoch is bullying Midorima and no budgie should have to be subjected to continual bullying by a cage-mate.

If you don't separate them now, there is a good chance that Enoch will very severely injure Midorima in the near future.
