Default What is wrong with stanley

My beautiful Stanley is definitely hyperactive and highly strung. I have had to remove every mirror from his cage as he seems to get angry and frustrated with them, When he fly's he is all over the place and he keeps flying and swooping for ages , he is extremely coordinated and he is like an acrobat. I have a feeling he is very very intelligent almost too intelligent. He is constantly hyper, he doesn't rest , just watching him wears me out (in a good way) and now I have him in a different room from the others he is extremely vocal almost scream sqwarking. Is he going through what we call puberty. Also, he does like my other budgie Decca but Decca is paired with Suki , if I let Decca out for play time with Stan will he lose his bond with suki completely even though he is still living with her. I got Stanley from a reputable breeder so I don't understand why he is so crazy and aggressive.

Just like people, all birds have their own unique temperaments and personalities.

It sounds as if Stanley is simply a very high energy dominant bird with aggressive tendencies.

Breeders must choose their breeding stock for calm temperament as well as good health in order to have the best possible outcome in the offspring.

Hooray, Stanley and zuko are friends. It took time and patience but we finally have a little friendship blooming. I think Zuko was still grieving Norman and he wouldn't entertain Stanley. Stanley has calmed down quite a bit too. I find if I let him out for half an hour by himself to fly around madly before I let the others out, he is not as hyperactive around them. In fact he is turning into quite a sweet little guy..

It's important to recognise individuality in our pet birds. Some birds do not bond closely and others develop very close bonds and when one-half of a closely bonded pair passes, it's very hard for the other bird to overcome. They need time and when they are ready, they will heal.
It's also perfectly fine if a bereaved budgie seems perfectly fine.

I'm very pleased Stanley and Zuko are becoming friends and sounds like Stanley is settling down, maybe getting past his young energetic phase.

I agree with Therm 100%!

I'm glad to hear you've found a workable solution to help Stanley work off his excess energy.

It's great that Stanley and Zuko are now becoming friends.

Just a little update, naughty Stanley has turned into the most lovely friendly bird. It has taken 3 months but all my birds are finally friends. Stanley and zuko are bonded so closely they are like a happy same sex couple . Stanley is so protective over zuko ,as you know zuko always got bullied and he is the underdog compared to the other 3. If Decca has a go at zuko ,Stanley shouts Decca down. I am so pleased zuko has this happy outcome as he is the one I worried about the most and he is the one who so desperatly needs looking after. These small birds are so human like, they put up walls and guards and it sometimes takes forever to get them down, maybe some never do but I'm so pleased it has worked out for the best in my situation. I never thought it would

Emma,

I'm so happy to hear that Zuko now has a new friend and protector in Stanley.

It sounds as though you've come out on top.
