Default Budgie Flew into my yard

Hello Everyone,

A few days ago my family and I were having a bbq outside when in flew a bright yellow and green male budgie. He was so happy to see humans and allowed himself to be caught and brought inside. After contacting several vets, police department and local neighborhood forums to let them know we found someone's pet, we have not heard a word. Since then my daughter has named him woodstock. She is 2 1/2 and loves Charlie Brown. "Woody" has officially become part of the family. I still worry about someone missing their pet. Does anyone have a suggestion of other ways to reach out?

We bought him a very large cage and set up a vet appointment for him. His Harrison's High potency food is on its way....my mom had a wonderful budgie named berry growing up so she has been very helpful. I never wanted a bird but how quickly I have fallen in love.

Advice is welcome.... Neebie bird owner.

Firstly, I love the name Woodstock! (Your daughter has very good taste ) How lucky is Woody to have flown into your BBQ? You could try putting out a post on social media, I've seen animals be reunited with their families before. Birds do have a habit of making us fall in love with them very quickly

What a lovely BBQ surprise for you and it sounds as though Woody has been lucky in his choice of next owner.

You could try looking/posting on gumtree/Craigslist for lost budgies amongst the 'pets for sale' as I've seen a few posts there in the past. If you do so, don't post a photo or specify identifying features (colours, gender, whether he has any leg ring or not) in order to prevent anyone fraudulently trying to claim a free pet.

Love to see some photos when you're sure he's yours for the keeping .

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Thank you and karma for rescuing little Woodstock!
JRS has given a good suggestion for another way of trying to find Woody's previous owner.
If there are any animal shelters in your area, I would contact them as well.

If Woodstock becomes a permanent member of your family, we'd love to see some pictures of him.

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.

Truly, the very BEST advice anyone can offer you is to take the time to read ALL of the stickies throughout the various Talk Budgie forums as well as the Budgie Articles we have posted.

These are great resources for Talk Budgie members and have a wealth of reliable information which will assist you to learn the best practices in caring for your budgies for their optimal health and well-being.

I love this kind of story and the only thing better would be if Woody was truly loved by the person who lost him, and reunited him because of your rescue. If not, we know he already has a great home with your family.

To answer your question about more thoroughly looking for an owner, many people will look online for their lost pet. How about the lost and found section of a website like Craigslist or another site similar to it depending on what country you're in. There are also websites out there if you google it, dedicated to lost and found of pets. Be sure not to disclose too much information... let the caller identify specifics. There are people online trying to "score" a free pet unfortunately.

If you keep Woodstock, as mentioned above, we have a great budgie resource guide right here. You've come to the right place . Many Stickies posts, articles, and past conversations which contain lots of good budgie information!
