Lightbulb Doesn't play with any toys!

So since having Vince for 3 weeks I've had to remove one toy as it was making her scream and seem agitated, she's been fine without it and was happier as soon as I took it away. However, I have left one in her cage and she never plays with it. I've added a swing and removed that too as her behaviour changes when new things are in the cage. Am I better off doing this or should I be leaving them in her cage for her to get used to? I have ordered a shredding toy for her so hopefully she will like that - I just don't want her to be bored!

Also, she usually sits on the top perch at the back of her cage and has done every night for 3 weeks but tonight she is sitting at the top but at the front, facing the back. It's as if something that side of her cage is upsetting her but there's nothing there?... Is this normal? Is she just having a little change in location haha.

I'd leave the toys in her cage for her to get used to. It can take a while for a budgie to try out new toys. Additionally, since you haven't had her for very long, I wouldn't be moving things around in her cage a lot. As for sleeping place, just sounds like she's having a change of location, trying something new.

Try placing new cage items outside but within sight of the cage for a few days, and then try attaching then to the outside of the cage until she isn't bothered by them being there, then move them into the cage. Budgies can be very neophobic, so a gradual desensitisation can help.

A new budgie often changes sleeping spots as it settles in, plus changes in the cage contents can alter what is perceived as the best spot - I wouldn't worry about the change in sleeping place.

Julia has given you excellent advice. It takes time for budgies to get used to new items and introducing them into "her" space slowly is best.

Additionally, she may not know how to play with the toys and you may need to teach her.
You do this by playing with the toy yourself and make happy, excited noises when doing so.
A toy with a bell is often a good one to start with.

Best wishes!
