Default Tail feather plucking?? not sure

Hey everyone!

Its been 3 weeks since I've gotten Kanna, and Kanna is doing great! Knows when bed time is, knows when breakfast is, enjoyed the spray mist bath I gave it..chirps a lot, enjoys avicii's songs and other peppy music. Plays around with the toys (not a lot but does every now and then). Kanna also loves to climb around the cage. My brother noticed this at first, and then i saw it with my own eyes today. Kanna climbed to the side of the cage and went to a corner. Rested itself onto the bars and made sure the tail feathers were able to stick up without it stretching out too far to grab it. Once the tail feathers were close, it started pulling them. Not big feathers, but tiny strands..Im a little worried and wondered what the rest of you thought.

Sound's like typical preening. I wouldn't be alarmed unless kanna starts actually pulling them completely out....

I agree with Jonah, it sounds as though Kanna is simply preening his tail which is perfectly normal!

it sounds like plucking though.. i had to snap my fingers a few times for him to focus on something else. After a while he stopped and did his own thing.. i gave him a bath and he seemed to enjoy it.. stopped doing that after the bath..a few days ago i found a lot of strands of single feathers on the liners as i cleaned it up..

What do you mean by "strands of single feathers"? Could you post a photo?

If it's the actual individual barbs of the feathers which are falling out, it's not plucking but it isn't normal, either. It indicates that as he's trying to preen normally, the weakened barbs break off easily.

Weak feather structure is usually due to nutritional deficiencies. Which diet is your budgie on at this time?

You can review the best diet for budgies in the link below:
https://talkbudgies.com/articles-diet...ur-budgie.html

Regardless, I would take him to the avian vet. It's always hard to know what the true cause of something is, and although we can advise you to change his diet or do other things, we can't diagnose him, so taking him to an avian vet is the best thing you can do.

Please keep us posted!
