Default New budgie wing tremble and digestion question

Hi all,

My new budgie 'Lilac' is about 4 weeks old. When we brought her home she was very excited to be on our hand or finger. Now she's less inclined to go on our finger, I think because she knows we put her in her cage and she does not want to go in!! Anyway, she has also been putting her wings away from her body and trembling a little. And I'm wondering if her stomach looks ok... she loves seed and eats and poops fine, but her crop looks full and her tummy looks empty? And help or suggestions on any issue much appreciated! Thanks, samara xNew budgie wing tremble and digestion question-img_1469.jpg

Hi there,

He's definitely stressed, and you should not be handling him right now at this point in time.

I already posted about the round cage in your other thread, but that could be contributing to his stress.

Since he's such a new budgie (also, he's not four weeks old-- at four weeks, budgies don't even have all their feathers yet! He's at least 8-10 weeks old at minimum), he needs two weeks to settle in on his own without you trying to touch him or take him out.

After two weeks, you can start putting your hand near his cage to get him used to it, then put your hand in the cage without moving, then moving it closer over time. All of this will take weeks, not days, so it's important to have patience.

The wing trembling and "skinny" body appearance is characteristic of stressed budgies.

Playing calm music in the background and talking to Lilac in soft, reassuring tones will help him start to settle in.

Best of luck!

Thank you,
I did question his age. We are getting a much bigger, better cage for him soon.
I appreciate your quick response, and will definitely take it easy as he settles in.
Thanks again!

Agree with SW entirely. Budgies all have variable "body shapes" just like us, and Lilac's build is more "chesty" so the area near her legs just looks thinner. Their crop is actually located in the upper chest area, so I'm sure Li is eating fine. Be patient, and don't jump into training right now. Li needs more time to adjust...new home, new cage, lots of changes.

Star has given you excellent advice.
Once Lilac has had time to settle into his new environment, he won't be nearly as stressed.

Hi all! My apologies... I thought I had replied days ago, but my post isn't here. Lilac has settled in wonderfully, and seems very happy and healthy! He's such a character!!
Thank you for all your posts, it's so so much appreciated.

I'm glad to hear Lilac has settled in well.
He is an adorable little boy!

Best wishes!
