Unhappy Feather picking

I've had 2 budgies, a male and a female but the female passed away a few months ago. I've been seeing more and more feathers on the bottom of the cage and my male budgie sometimes starts picking them. Is this normal or should I visit a vet?
I'm really worried about him.

Thanks!

Are you sure the male isn't just molting?

It would be helpful if you would post a picture of your budgie.

The links Katherine has provided for you should give you all the information you need about molting.

There is quite a difference between feather picking and molting, when a bird is molting you will sometimes see them pull a feather out but the reason is very different from when a bird is actually feather picking and creating bald spots on the body. If a bird is feather picking it can be due to stress or boredom as well as other things.

Thanks, I'm sure it's molting as there aren't any bald spots and he doesn't do it constantly.
