Default Mating

Hey guys,
So yesterday I saw my budgies mate, and a few weeks leading up to it, I noticed Banana start to lift her tail when Rico did the flirting thing (beak clicking and head bobbing) to her. I really don't want her to lay eggs, and I don't have a nest box. I am terrified of egg binding and internal egg breaking and all the complications that could potentially kill her. I don't have space for a seperate cage, advice please?

Rearranging their cage frequently, and limiting the light they get to 8 hours a day will help tremendously.

Please be sure you never put a nest box or anything that could be used as a nesting site in their cage.

When they are in condition, limit the amount of protein (e.g. egg food) in their diet at that time.

You may have to *find* space for another cage however. You should have a spare cage on hand at all times for use when needed for quarantine, as a hospital cage or a travel cage.

Generally, when you have to separate the birds due to mating, you only have to keep them apart for a few weeks. You want to be sure they are totally out of condition before allowing them back in the same cage again.

You've been given great advice, additionally, your current cage looks to be too small for 2 budgies. The absolute minimum size cage for two budgies is 30 x 18 x 18 inches.

Thanks for the advice 😊
My cage does look very small in the picture, but it's actually 25x25x30

Iím sorry youíre having this issue right now. Do the steps given to you by Deborah above to throw your birds out of breeding mode. It works. Additionally, hereís a link on this very topic. https://www.talkbudgies.com/budgie-b...want-eggs.html
