Default Is he just playing, or trying to feed his toy?

Link to the video that shows the behaviour:

Hiya, our budgie Quick recently started playing with his bell toy much more gently than before. We're slightly worried he might be trying to feed it due to the reflection in it?

We haven't seem him make the head-bobbing or neck-stretching movement that is associated with regurgitating yet, but we're simply not sure.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi there, welcome .

It’s hard to say by the video if Quick is just playing, but occasionally budgies will try to feed a bell or other type of toy. The same general guidelines will apply as for mirror toys; If a budgie obsesses over any toy, it’s always best to remove it. Enjoying a favorite toy is one thing, obsessing is different. You might start to see “tongue mark” stains or dried food on the bell if that’s what’s happening. It’s frustrating and mentally unhealthy for a budgie who does this, and it can lead to negative behavior changes.

Please take the time to read over the educational resources we provide. The Articles and Stickies have some useful information to help you get started, and you’ll also find many answers to common questions as well. If you can’t find an answer after reading, just ask.

Enjoy!
