Default Male budgie doesn't like me

Hey everyone! Jamie and Claire have been in their new cage for a couple of months now and all is going well. I posted not too long ago that I can now get Claire to eat from my hand. She is the sweetest most gentle little thing and has never nipped at me. Jamie, on the other hand, is a different story! This past Saturday he was finally brave enough to jump on my hand along with Claire. It was clearly driving him crazy to watch her on my hand eating while he was too apprehensive to give it a try. At first I was thrilled and even though he was pecking at my fingers, he still was okay and even ate a bit. The next time I attempted it yesterday, he got back on my hand along with Claire but this time he really chomped down on my fingertip! I safely got both of them off of my hand and removed my hand from the cage. My poor husband thought I was exaggerating and so I coaxed him into trying it and they both got on his hand too. Then... Jamie bit him too. Ok, that was a little funny but it still bothers me because it's so sweet that they are trusting enough to get on our hands to eat but I don't understand why Jamie is biting us. I'm going to try it again this evening and tuck my fingers into my palm so he can only get to my knuckles. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

Some budgies like to bite. I have several that will land on me and then chomp down as hard as possible whenever they get the chance.
The best thing you can do is distract Jamie with a toy or a treat to get him to focus on something other than biting you. My solution has been to wear long pants and long sleeves and I simply don't allow my biting budgies to land on my hands so they way the are unable to bite my skin.

Well, the problem is that neither of them are tame. We adopted them over a year ago and before that they were kept in a small cage with very little human interaction. They are much more comfortable with me now since they have been in their new cage and the fact that they are comfortable enough to jump on my hand and eat out of palm is a huge milestone! Like I said, Claire is very sweet and eats nicely with no biting of my fingers. Jamie is a different story though. Last night I curled my fingers in to make somewhat of a fist so that Jamie can only nip at my knuckles. That helped a lot but Claire doesn't like it much and prefers my hand to be open. They are not ready to come out of the cage (not sure they ever will be) and I don't want to put on a glove.

I did read that sometimes budgies will bite out of jealousy. I wondering if he could possible be jealous that Claire is spending time on my hand. He seems very possessive of her.

My thoughts are, it's about more that this hand thing, with food, is a little unstable and maybe he can do something like biting, rather than jealously. Budgies are all individuals and that's part of why they're so interesting. I'm glad that their new home you provide, is a much better place.

Phil, you may be right about that. The more I think about it, he does seem to bite at things in the cage quite a bit. Maybe that's just his "thing". He's got quite a personality on him for sure. I love them both despite their little quirks!

My female budgie is very nibbly and bitey with everything while my male budgie isn't. It's a personality thing I think, just try to ignore it but if it really starts to hurt find a way to distract him

Yes, I have figured out that it is his personality. I have also learned to curl my fingers in to make a semi fist when Claire is eating so Jamie can't bite my finger tips. It's really amazing to see him jump on my arm now when I hold it in the cage. He only has access to the top of my arm so when he nips he can't get a hold of any fleshy skin. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd get to this point. I really have to give most of the credit to the new cage. They must be really comfortable and secure with all of the space they now have.
