Default Budgie's developing aggression

Hello, my male budgie has been developing aggression towards me. He started biting me whenever my finger approached him in his cage.

He used to enjoy my finger tickling his cheek and rubbing his back but now not at all and he would fend off by biting my finger. He has been showing this aggression since early this week and I wonder why.

I got him in late Oct 18 and the store told me he was about 3 to 4 months old. So he should be at 9 to 10 months old now. Could he be in some hormone change?

He has been fed well with seeds, apple, broccoli, spinach and spring mix vege.

Budgies become more independent as they get older.
When he bites you then he wants to be left alone and you need to respect his space.
You should never grab your budgie or force him to be touched.

Why is my budgie suddenly aggressive?

Thank you! Would you know how long this would take? He usually allowed me to send him to bed every night and let me pet him whenever I turned off the light for bed time. Last night it didn't seem so, not only he would bite me but also refuse go to bed, continue playing with his toys despite I covered his cage with blanket.

It's impossible to say how long your budgie is going to act in this manner as each and every bird is unique.

Just be patient with him and go at his pace.

Best wishes!

Thank You. I have been monitoring since and he has showed intermittent behaviour, he would once want to perch on my finger but later bit me again.

I have a couple of male budgies that think it's quite fun to bite (for no good reason). They can be sitting on me quite happily and then suddenly decide to chomp!

My peppermint doesn't bite me in general except since recently. I do enjoy he explored my hand and fingers and he would more like scratching and tickling around with his beak.

Hopefully he'll go back to that behavior in time.

Yeah, finger crossed. Some budgie expert told me Peppermint could be going "teenager rebellion" time with his door hanging "DND"...

He used to enjoy millet and I was able to tame him after hand feeding him millet like few times. But now, he was not lured by millet anymore.

Hi Mike, you’ve been given good advice from Deborah . Many budgies do change when they become mature. Sounds like you still have a nice little friend there, but he just wants his space more now.
