Default Bickering

My girls have started to bicker more frequently and I'm wondering what is acceptable levels?

They share food dishes just fine and there is no chasing or bullying. It generally when one is playing with a certain toy or in a certain spot and the other wants what the first has.

So far it been mostly yelling at each other, with the occasional beak clashing. No actual biting or fighting.

Whats really odd is this started the same time they began feeding each other. Is it just them figuring out who is boss? I didn't mean to buy two hens and now I worry about long term continuity.

First, how big is your cage for the two? That can make a big difference in how they react to each other.

Without seeing them, it sounds from your explanation that they’re simply sorting things out. By providing food dishes for each of them and an additional swing (or whatever they fight over) it could help too.

Despite the widespread thought that females can’t get along, it is not true. Plenty of girls are best friends. It just depends on the individuals.

The cage is 34 high 31 wide 20 deep. They main object of bickering is a grapevine perch at the top of the cage. They both like sitting next to the bars. I don't know of its due to being closest to the window or if its the iodine block.

I did some rearranging of perches, added a couple more and took one out. Also added in another iodine block.

I'll try to get a video but it might be hard, they usually stop if I stand up or get close to the cage.

Here is a short clip of the sounds. Angel is telling chiffon off and you can see chiff move away from angel.

What you are seeing/hearing is normal budgie behavior and nothing to be concerned about.

I would recommend you use only black and white newspaper, blank newsprint or white craft paper as a cage liner rather than using the colored sections of the newspaper though.
The dye in the colored sections isn't the best for your budgies.

Even normal if they have physical contact while bickering? I put in a second food dish as angel got pretty possessive of the one.

This is the first time I used newspaper on the bottom, usually I use white paper towel. I'll stick to the towels for now on.

Physical contact while bickering is also normal.
I would only worry if it is a constant and/or one of the birds gets particularly aggressive toward the other.
