Default The saga of the mirror...

Just wanted to share something with the board and see if anyone else has some funny/interesting budgie stories along these lines to share.

OK so we know the old thing about how you give a budgie a mirror for "company" and we know that it's also actually a terrible idea to give a budgie a mirror. But before I knew better (probably 6-7 years ago) I gave my Charlie a biggish mirror to hang in his cage and he got properly obsessed with it, to the point I was having to clean regurgitated seed off it every couple of hours and he would cry for it non-stop if I took it out. But it's quite funny how I got him off it... when I took it away to clean, he'd get excited hearing the chain jangling on my way back and so one day I cut out a bit of mirror-shaped card, replaced the mirror and jangled it like crazy behind my back as I walked in so he got all excited, then put the hanging card in the cage instead. He looked a bit confused for a minute or two but then accepted it and it's still one of his favourite toys to this day, although he stopped feeding it right away and it seems more like a comfort thing than anything now that he likes to sit by and rest his head against ha.

The weird thing is, however, there is a big wall mirror in the room he's in (he can't see it from his cage) and whenever I get him out, usually he wants me to take him right to it but I don't get the sense he thinks it's another bird because he doesn't call for it and basically just likes to have a look. Obviously he can see me in it, too, so perhaps that's the difference?
