Default Fighting budgies

Hello everyone!

Itís been a long while since Iíve checked in on this forum!

My four budgies Kirby, Kiwi, Sunny & Bluebell are doing well.

Iíve always had four budgies (2 girls and 2 boys) in a flight cage. Our original four were Kirby, Charlie, Daisy & Ollie. As each of them passed away we always got a new budgie to keep our numbers even and thatís how we ended up with these four with Kirby being our oldest & first budgie we owned, the only one remaining from the first group.

Until now Iíve never had Any trouble with budgies getting along.
Kirby and Kiwi have paired up and Sunny would spend his ENTIRE day harassing Kirby and Kiwi until they would attack him. This happened several times but the last time they attacked his eye it looked so bad i thought he had actually lost his eye I decided then that they had to be separated and have moved Kirby and Kiwi to their own cage.

Since then Sunnyís eye has recovered 100% it looked far worse than it was thankfully and is now all better. And even better is that today I caught Sunny and Bluebell kissing when usually Bluebell is sitting by herself getting no attention!

I donít know if Iíll ever try putting all of them back together again or just leave them seperate but Iím glad Sunny finally realises that Kirby isnít the only girl around to give love to. Especially since it was unwanted love

Since the attack was on the level of causing damage, the budgies should stay separated permanently. You don’t want it to happen again, and next time really lose an eye. Good to hear Sunny’s eye is all better now.

Sounds like there’s harmony now in both cages . Just make sure continue your diligence in preventing breeding with you mixed gender pairs.

Beautiful birds! Looking forward to seeing more of them.

Thanks, yes we are very careful not to have anything that even slightly resembles a nest. Kirby has been egg bound twice unfortunately as she started laying one year so we do our best to prevent that behaviour as she would likely just become egg bound again & we donít want babies!

I'm glad to hear that Sunny's eye fully recovered. He was very fortunate.

As there has been aggression to the point of fighting, it is best that Sunny remain separated from Kirby and Kiwi.
You can consider housing Sunny and Bluebell together on a permanent basis.

Best wishes!

Thanks faerybee! We will for sure keep them separate. Sunny and Bluebell seem super happy together now which is a relief and it seems thereís harmony in both cages!
Lucky we had a spare cage anyway, think Iíll have to go toy shopping soon and get them some new things to entertain themselves!

I'm sure they are going to love having some new toys. Hope to see you and your flock around the forums when you have time to stop by!
