Question Odd rolling over behaviour

Hi everyone, REALLY long time no see.

My 7 year old female budgie has just started a new behaviour a few days ago. It's cute but it's odd.

Several times now I've walked by the cage and noticed she is laying on her back on top of the feeder. When she spots me she rolls back over and moves to a branch. She has taken to standing on top of their feeding cube and watching other eat for long periods and then rolling over and laying on her back. I managed to capture this behaviour on my phone and encourage you to watch the video. If anyone has any ideas about what is going on please let me know

Merlin rolling over - YouTube
Bit of background info:
Although Merlin is 7 years old now, she has never expressed interest in mating or laying. I'm not sure if this behaviour is just playing by herself or if this is some kind of mating behaviour.
She always has access to cuttlefish, eats a good diet of pellets, some seeds, sprouts and fresh veggies and receives fresh gum leaves twice a week. I've always spoiled my birds and made sure they get the best care but still she never laid.

Thanks!

Does she get out of cage time? If so, is it something she enjoys? In parts of the video, it looks like shes trying to squeeze out of the cage, between the bars. My guess is shes either trying to get out, or shes just playing. My hen does this from time to time too. My girl gets plenty of out of cage time and I know with her its just a game she plays.

My Lemon used to roll over onto her back a lot when she was younger. She was just being silly and playing around.

Hi Blingy,

The cage door stays open whilst I'm at home. So they come and go as they please. I've found Merlin just laying on her back for lengthy period as if she's just chilling but every time I go to take a photo she rolls over haha! I suspect this might just be a playful thing but its just odd that it's something she's only just discovered at age 7.

Since she can come out you her cage as often as she pleases, then shes definitely not doing this to try to get out. Id say shes playing and/or resting. While its not something you hear all the time, some budgies do actually like to rest on their backs from time to time.

Merlin is so cute rolling around like that!
I believe she's just playing.
Perhaps she likes the feeling of the smooth plastic up against her back.

What a silly girl. One of my birds will roll on her back when she is bathing, maybe that clear surface looks like water to her and she is trying to do the same.

I thought the same thing! OP, I've had budgies that LOVED rolling on wet lettuce leaves. You might check to see if she would like that!
