Default Grieving budgie

We are in the sad situation where our most senior budgie died earlier this week. The three budgies have been a little flock for 3 years ( previously 4). Louis died of heart failure, the vet felt he almost certainly had some congenital heart problem, he was a much smaller bird with scruffy tail feathers and a slightly odd way of walking. A huge character and such a loss to us all. Poor Frank is calling out to him ( I assume that is what he is doing). Frank used to preen Louis, they were very close buddies. He and Quincy get along fine, but it is clear he is grieving fro his friend and wondering where he is. Do others have experience of this? Is there anything I can do other than being here with them as much as I can ( lockdown helps of course) and providing more treats and distractions if possible?

We are not getting any other birds as our previous senior bird died ( 3 years ago) and the the vet said she thought it was megabac. She said it is endemic in budgies so likely the others might have it too ( though they are well and we use sodium benzoate in their water in an attempt at prophylaxis against any flare ups, anyway, she suggested we don't add to the flock just in case. Mind you, if it is endemic, I would havethought any new flock is likely to be affected anyway. Still, we are sticking with her advice. So now just 2 boys, age 7.

Anyway, advice on helping Frank, especially, through this difficult grieving period is gratefully received,

Many thanks

I'm so very sorry for your loss of Louis

Frank is going to need some time to grieve and it may take a few days or even a few weeks but he will adjust.

Spend as much time talking and interacting with him as you can.

Sending prayers love to you, Frank and Quincy during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear that little Louis has passed on to the Rainbow Bridge

I hope that you and the other budgies are able to help each other through this difficult time. Rest in peace and fly high, little Louis

Thanks, the flock calling is slightly better, occasional persistent squarking but again, less than there was I'd say. He's settling down next to Quincy for naps and so on, so I think they're rubbing along fine. He's a bit more bitey at times - at strategy he has always adopted to keep Quincy off my hand. Hoping that settles too - now I have a spare hand with capacity for two budgies.
