Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

3rd egg hatched today Babies one and two have gotten so big already! The most recently hatched chick is hiding under them in this photo.

There is still no sign of fertility in any of the other eggs, but I've noticed the chicks use them to rest their heads on. I've read many conflicting opinions on what to do with infertile eggs, any and all help would be appreciated on this matter... Should I remove them or leave them until Arya decides to abandon them?

Congrats on another healthy pinkie!
I would leave the eggs. They are important head support (as you noticed) and apart from that, eggs don't always become when they are estimated to. I would leave them for two or three more days and if still there's no sign of fertility, I would remove them.
Three is a good number for a clutch! Is this Arya's first?

Thank you, I'll do that. It's her first clutch that have produced babies, she laid a clutch of 7 infertile eggs last year (she and Podrick weren't mating at the time), and they only started mating more than half way through laying this clutch.

Unhappy Help!

Everyone! I think I have a problem, I got a proper look at the youngest chick today and it looks like it is missing a wing! Is this a birth defect? I've looked all over the internet and can't seem to find anyone with the same problem. I've also noticed that all three chicks have very swollen stomachs, which are hard to the touch. My best guess is maybe gas or constipation? Please help I am so worried

Hi everyone, I have an update:

I just took the three babies to the vet and he assured me that the big tummies are normal as they're eating machines at this age, and that they'll "grow into" their stomachs as they get bigger. He told me that the youngest budgie's stumped growth in his wings are due to a genetic deformity and there's nothing I could have done... He told me I need to start hand feeding the youngest baby as its not being fed enough by mum. On a brighter note he assures me that the babies are very healthy.

Bubbles,

I was pleased to see your update that you've visted the vet with the babies today!

It's great news that the babies are healthy and what you were seeing was normal.

I'm very sorry the youngest has a genetic birth defect.
With additional care and attention he will still be able to have a healthy and happy life.
I know you'll give him lots of Tender Loving Care and will provide him with a safe and loving forever home.

We'll be looking forward to your next update.
