Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Unhappy Discouraging breeding did not work?

To my dismay, when I woke up yesterday from a nap, my budgies were breeding.

I've followed the instructions to discourage breeding, No dark spots, No long daylight hours, Not overfeeding, and until yesterday, I was pretty sure the two did not like each other.

I'm not really sure what to do ;- ; for now, I've put the cage separator in and they're on their own side, away from the other two birds.

I'm really worried, because even though he is over a year old, she's not. They are both very untamed too.

What am I supposed to do?

TO DISCOURAGE THE BREEDING:-

1) Re-arrange the cage (perches toys etc) twice in a week
2) Remove the pots
3) change the perches everyday (if possible)
4) don't keep them in light for more than 10 hours

if you keep on re arranging the cage setup perches etc
it may sure discourage in breeding

as it worked when I tried...........all the best

If you have taken all the steps indicated in this link: https://talkbudgies.com/budgie-breedi...want-eggs.html
Then in order to allow your budgies the time to cool off, you can house them temporarily on different cages.
Just because you caught them mating one time, it doesn't mean eggs will come.
This will only happen when the matings are done in a consistent manner and on a daily basis.

Best of luck with everything!
