Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default Budgies Mated

I caught Zazu and Elise mating yesturday, I have no nesting box in the cage, so I'm not sure if Elise will lay an egg. Will she even if I don't have a box?

Hi there,

If this was an isolated case and there hasn't been consistent matings, then chances are very high that your budgie will not lay one or more eggs.
In order to discourage breeding, be sure to follow the recommendations on this link: https://talkbudgies.com/budgie-breedi...want-eggs.html

Depending on the situation, and if your budgies prove to be resistant to the measures taken, then as a last resort you can house them on separate cages temporarily in order to give them the time to cool down and get their hormones under control.

Best of luck with everything!

I also agree with Aluz. I tried just about everything in that thread with my two that really wanted to begin a family, after their first unplanned attempt of course. Nothing seemed to work for them, they just didn't care. So weended up having to get another cage, and separate the boys and the girls. It's a hard decision to make, but our flock is better for it. It may come to that if the measures in the link the Aluz provided don't work. I hope that you can get the situation under control so you don't have to separate them! Good luck!
