Budgie BreedingBefore breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility. Thread Description:have i got twin budgies
i am a first timer on here and also have my first budgies hatched.
My Albino hen ended up with 5 eggs. The cock died before they were hatched so
she has to do it alone. 4 of the eggs are hatched but i have 5 babies. One egg is still
unhatched. Could i have twins?
I have moved this post the the breeding section where it is most appropriate.
Have you breed budgies before and are you prepared to support your budgie if needed with raising her babies?
Do you have any other budgies right now?
I don't understand your question about having twins?
How long have you have budgies and have you browsed the forums and read the stickies?
Yes, it is possible for one egg to have twins -- although it is very rare because there generally isn't enough room for both fetus to grown within the egg.
Are two of the hatchlings much smaller than the others were when they hatched?
Generally if there are twins from a double yolked egg, they don't survive to the point of hatching.
If yours were successful in hatching and manage to thrive, then you have been blessed with a small miracle!
Are you prepared to step in with supplemental feedings for the older chicks if the mother is unable to keep up with feeding and caring for all 6?
I noticed in your profile picture your birds are perched on a wooden dowel rod and wanted to mention it would be best for you to replace wooden dowels with natural wood perches of varying diameters to help prevent pressure sores and bumblefoot.

Thank you all for your advice. Yes it is my first time breeding. I did not intend to breed at this early stage until i had armed myself with more information but noticed that my hen seemed to b e nesting in the corner of the avairy. I moved her and her partner to a breeding cage with a nestbox and she laid eggs more or less straight away.
