Budgie BreedingBefore breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.
Hi everyone! Is 13/14 months too young for breeding? My boy Paulie turns a year old next month, his mate (blu) is almost 17 months old now. I would love to try and breed them late October to early November when the temperature here is perfect. I know it's still few months away but this will be my first time breeding budgies, so I'm very excited. I have spent over a year researching as I was going to breed another pair but I didn't feel ready and if something were to happen I'd feel terrible, the only thing I still can't figure out is mutations but I'm getting there. Lol.
My birds are all on a great diet of pellets and seed, fresh fruit and veggies daily, I also make all the birds egg food once a week and they get millet twice a week.
I also have the time and money if something were to go wrong (vets, hand rearing ect.)
Pictures of Paulie and Blu below, Blu is looking pretty curious in this photo finally meeting the babies yesterday haha.
Thank you both so much, i know everyone says over a year old but Paulie seems so immature haha but he might grow up a little in the next couple of months if not I might have to wait a little longer. I do see him trying to mount her a lot but I think he's just doing it for fun (if that's something they do lol)
Paulie's mother is a mauve yf2 cinnamon so the same as him and his father is a yellow face colbolt normal. That's what the breeder told me anyway, I didn't see the father and not much of the mother either.
Blu's mother and father are both normals with Lutinos somewhere down the line so I really don't know what I would be expecting but my guess is mostly normals?
