Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Madhatter is on a distinguished road
Default Disco and Roxy

Hi, after moving my birds back inside for the winter and separating my two hens from my pair, Disco and Roxy have started a family. I had the box closed off but Roxy chewed her way in so I just left it open. I have 4 eggs in total. Roxy is laying them at 2 day intervals. I am keeping a journal. I haven't checked to se if all are fertile but noticed today that the last two eggs Roxy has layed are double in size compared to the first two. Is there a reason for this? This will be Roxys first clutch. Thanks

Hi
I know very little about breeding but wonder if these could be a 'double yolkers'- I believe that is usually the case with chicken eggs.

It would be wonderful if you were to be talkbudgies' first member to breed twins !
Please, keep in contact to let us know the outcome

I would suspect that the first two are smaller than usual due to being her first eggs. Hopefully the others are normal sized.
