Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default the weird couple

Hi all
I have this weird problem with my budgies.but first know that i'm not new to budgie breeding.i used to breed many many budgies ..but that when i was in Egypt couple of years ago, then i moved to KSA which is completely different weather.so i wanted to breed budgies again.i went to the store and i picked a beautiful (adult) pair. I picked them adults so i won't wait for too long. A piar with a big cage and big wooden nesting box, many perches (wooden and plastic) and lots of food(seeds) and water. But i didn' put the cage in the balcony as i used to .because the weather here in KSA is AWFULLY HOT! So i put them indoor with us. I thought it would take a month maximum for them to mate and start to breed..but hell no..now i waited for a YEAR! I bought them ADULTS so i won't have to wait much. They didn't even bother to look inside the nest! a whole year non of them put a head inside the nest to take a look! And the male didn't show any interest in the female..she is adult with brown crusty cere..she chewed many wooden perches..but never went into the nest box.the male is also an adult with a vibrant blue cere..always singing amazing songs.sometimes he tries to feed her, but in a very strange way..he starts feeding her but it takes only a second or two then he suddenly stops and become angry with loud sounds then leaves her and fly away!! Whats wrong with these couple! A whole year like this! Any advise please because i'm so desperate

Your budgie pair is quite pretty.
I notice you joined Talk Budgies in January 2017 but have not posted until now.

I hope that you have taken the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum?

You indicate you have both wooden and plastic perches. I would suggest you remove the plastic perches and replace them with other wooden perches of varying diameters. Good perch choices are shown in this thread:

With regard to your budgies not breeding, a great deal depends on whether or not they want to be parents and, some budgie pairs are just simply not interested in one another in "that" way.

Beyond that, the conditioning diet of a high quality seed mix, various budgie safe vegetables and egg food is important.

Even though you've bred budgies in the past, have you reviewed the various stickies in the breeding section of the forum?
