Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default Older Baby Not Eating

One of my 7 babies, who is 4.3 weeks old, wants nothing to do with me hand-feeding it. I end of with formula everywhere except in his crop.

It's in a weaning cage with seed, millet, eggfood, veggies, cooked grains, etc. on the floor of the cage. I see him pick at the millet and seed, but I don't think he manages to actually eat anything.

Any tips or suggestions?

He should definitely go back with his parents (or at least his dad). If he's been hand-fed for a while and not eating he may be sick. Don't try to force feed. How long has he been hand-fed?

He has been hand fed for two weeks. Not sure the dad will still take them back?

He ate a fair amount at the last feeding I offered. I might have been feeding the older chicks to often. There are 7 of them, and they are 12 days apart. I fed all of them on the youngest birds' required schedule.

Major rapid growth has lessened, so depending how much he's been taking, he's likely just filling up less frequently, as he begins exploring other foods. If he seems otherwise healthy, I'd just keep an eye on him.
