Budgie Breeding Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.

Default Detached air cell in 18+ day old eggs

I have a 3 year old budgie who laid five eggs recently one hatched and the newborn budgie died within 48 hours. She has since stopped incubating her eggs so I candled the remaining four eggs and two were in fertile and the other to appear to have detached air cells. Will they hatch?

If the fertile eggs are not being incubated and you don't put them in an incubator they are not going to hatch.

With regard to the two with detached air sacs, the more you handle them, the less likely they are to hatch even if incubated properly.

As your bird is now three years old, I would not recommend breeding her again.
No budgie 4 years of age or older should be bred.
