I caught my budgies mating (I can't have any more budgies!)
Budgie BreedingBefore breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.
Thank you for taking the precautions to not let her lay any eggs.
If she does happen to lay an egg, you can simply remove it and throw it away. You don't need to let her incubate it, as there won't be any life in it for a few days to start with. You don't need to replace the eggs with fake ones either, as this will still encourage a nesting behaviour.
Just toss them out and you're good to go!
If you're able to separate them into different cages until her hormones die down, that would be best.
Rearranging the cage frequently, limiting sunlight, etc. are all good steps to take. If she does lay, as mentioned above, tossing the egg is fine as there is no life in the egg until it has been incubated for several consecutive days.
Best of luck!
and Princess Mallorn!
Thank you to Deb for her wonderful Faery magic
