Default New babies need advise

So my momma budgie (Bonnie) just hatched her first clutch. She will not tolerate wood shavings in her box. So how do I clean the bottom of the nesting box and with what? I have never been able to tame her so she dose not like me in her box. Help?

Hi! to Talk Budgies

Please read the information in the link below BEFORE proceeding with reading the rest of my post.

Guidance with Regard to Breeding Advice Threads

How long have you had your budgies?
How many adult budgies do you have?
Are the breeding pair in a proper individual breeding cage?
Does the nestbox have a concave bottom? From the picture it does NOT appear to.
How much research have you done with regard to breeding?
Are you using liners inside the nestbox?

You should be prepared for every contingency prior to breeding your birds.
Before breeding any species, it is important to learn as much about the animals, their personalities and the best practices to follow for responsible and ethical breeding prior to making the commitment to take on the responsibility.
This requires extensive research and an openness to continual learning.

It is normal for a budgie to throw out the wood shavings.
Bonnie may tolerate the shavings better as the chicks get a bit older.

When the time comes to clean the nest box, you will need to knock on the box gently to see if Bonnie will come out of the box. You can then clean the box while she is eating/drinking outside the box.

If you are not using plastic liners with a proper concave in the in the nest box with the concave bottom, the nest-box can be swapped out with another box while you clean the bottom with either undiluted white vinegar or Veterinary F10 disinfectant cleaner.

Please take the time to read through the Site Guidelines, all of the How To Guides, the FAQs, the Budgie Articles and the stickies located at the top of each section of the forum.
